Land and Sea Dept. and the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel went nautical in June of 2016 with the Cherry Circle Room Yacht Club, a part of the CAA’s on-going pop-up bar series.

The Cherry Circle Yacht Club was inspired by the Chicago Athletic Association’s own yacht team from the early 20th century and was named after their boat, the Cherry Circle. The concept was developed by Chicago-based art gallery Johalla Projects and Ship to Shore Productions, content creators specializing in conservation, nature and science story telling.

Johalla Projects also designed the space, which was housed in a freestanding structure in the hotel’s Tank event space, outfitted in vintage furniture, maritime-inspired décor, and coastal touches.

Opening weekend coincided with the world-renowned America’s Cup sailing competition, which happened on Lake Michigan for the first time on June 10 – 12, 2016. Land and Sea Dept. operated the bar, which featured a menu of historic and nautically inclined cocktails from beverage director Paul McGee, alongside a selection of beer from Anchor Brewing and champagne from Moët-Hennessey.
